07 Mar #BeBoldForChange: Celebrating International Women’s Day at EQIWP HUBs

International Women’s Day is an important time to celebrate the accomplishments of women all over the world; however, it also signifies that we all have a collective responsibility to shape a society where the contributions of women are seen and appreciated equally to those of men. The World Economic Forum predicts that the gender gap won’t close until 2186, but we all know that 169 years is far too long to wait!

When Canada World Youth and Youth Challenge International launched EQWIP HUBs in 2015, it was evident that our innovative approach to Youth Development needed to place young women at the core of our actions. This need has not changed, and today the global network of EQWIP HUBs are dynamic spaces where everyone is committed to helping determined young women achieve their ambitions and build the skills and pathways they need to access a fulfilling livelihood.

EQWIP HUBs has become a catalyst for progress on the gender equality front. Our 12 EQWIP HUBs around the world encourage and support a new generation of young women with a desire to access job opportunity or succeed as an entrepreneur. Each space offers unique work skills and entrepreneurship programs that equip young women to start overcoming the barriers that prevent gender equality in the local workforce. Extra initiatives like Girls Clubs, create spaces for young women to talk about the real issues they face in their daily lives and provide supportive environments to help overcome them.

With young women accounting for 59% of EQWIP HUBs youth participants in 2016, we remain fully committed to expanding their ability to access a fulfilling livelihood. That’s why this International Women’s Day we have come together to #BeBoldForChange, identifying specific actions we will take in the continued journey towards gender equality!
